People Movers under 1 Million Pesos

Let’s say that you don’t have a Million to buy a new car.  And you are looking for a family hauler that is cheap to own and still accommodate more than 5 passengers for your weekend trips. Or a car that can be added to your fleet. Here are a random list of cars that is available on the market today. Note that the cars on my list claims that it can seat more than 5 passengers comfortably with a space for few luggages to spare. The list is arrange from the most cheapest down to the closest million.

1.  Foton Gratour 1.2 M/T

This people hauler can seat 7-8 passengers. A 1.2 Gasoline motor powers the Gratour and is mated with a 5 speed manual transmission. Not much reviews available online but hoping Foton will lend a test unit anytime soon. Price starts at 510000 php

2.  Suzuki APV 1.6 GA M/T

Suzuki APV has been around for a while and still works its way for some Filipinos. It sized perfectly for in city and highway driving. Surprisingly, it is the second most affordable MPV on our list. Powered by 1.6 Litre gas engine and can seat 8 passengers in perfect comfort with tons of space for luggage. check out my in-depth review by clicking this link.  Pricing starts at 588,000 php for the GA, GLX M/T at 778000 php and top of the line SGX at 820,000 php.

3.  Suzuki Ertiga GA 1.4 M/T

Since it debut in 2014, it was an instant hit for Suzuki. They call it Lifestyle Utility Vehicle or LUV. it shares the same platform and styling cues with the Swift. It has given a much longer wheelbase to accommodate the 3rd row of seats. Powering this 7-seater LUV is a 1.4 VVT engine that can be found in the Ciaz and the Japan-spec Swift. Pricing starts at 675000 php. Mid spec variant the GL with the choice of 5-speed M/T or 4 Speed A/T cost 778,000 php and 818,000 php respectively. Top-spec GLX cost 928,000 php.

4. Mitsubishi Adventure 2.5 GX M/T

Mitsubishi’s pride and glory, the Adventure, has been with us for almost 2 decades now. With its nth generation, it clearly shows how Filipinos love it. It had a few minor cosmetic changes over the years but the 2.5 Diesel engine are now euro 2 compliant for more cleaner engine performance. Pricing starts at 735,000 php, mid spec GLX and GLS Sport priced at 905,000 php and 965,000 php respectively.

5. Toyota Avanza 1.3 J M/T

Toyota’s entry level MPV is one of the most sought after vehicle in the segment due to its popularity among Taxi operators and fleet buyers. Powered by a 1.3 Litre VVT-i, it is adequate and frugal enough for in city or highway driving. it can seat 7 Passengers with a few luggages to spare. Unlike its competitors, it drives the rear wheels. Great for hauling or climbing up to steep heels.  Pricing starts at 781,000 php. Mid spec E priced at 781,000 php for M/T and 824,000 php for A/T. Top Spec G priced at 900,000 php for M/T and 943,000 php for A/T.

6. Honda Mobilio 1.5 E M/T

Mobilio has the shared platform with the Brio and Brio Amaze. It has given a much longer wheelbase to accommodate the 3rd row of seater, much like the Ertiga. Mobilio is powered by 1.5 i-VTEC engine that also powers the Jazz. Mated with Honda’s precision 5 Speed Manual or 7-Speed CVT.  Space and ergonomics is well put together however it is a sea of black plastics all around. Given its price point and function, the Honda Mobilio is one the best value proposition for buyers that you need to check out. Pricing starts at 822,000php , 892,000 php for 1.5 V CVT Variant, 910,000 php for the V Modulo Utility and 918,000 php for the V Platinum variant.

7. Isuzu Crosswind XL 5 M/T

Isuzu Crosswind has been with us since the last decade. They made some cosmetic iteration over the years and honestly, it is one of the best looking AUV’s on sale today. But everything must come to an end as Isuzu announces that this year will be the last for our beloved AUV. As the company is gearing to modernisation and complying to the world’s growing demand for eco -friendly transport. The Crosswind is powered by the legendary 2.5 Turbocharged engine. It is robust and economical that most of the population can attest to it. Pricing starts at 834,000 php for the XL 5 M/T,  923,000 php for the XT and 948,000 php for XT Urban Edition.

8. Mahindra XYLO 2.2 E2 M/T

Mahindra’s entry level MPV is quite a unique blob. It has bulges of an SUV with proportions of a typical van. Powering this MPV is a 2.2 mHawk CRDI diesel engine that produces 120hp and 280Nm of Torque, a much need for an MPV that can seat 9 Passengers. Pricing starts at  895,000 php for the 2.2 E2 M/T and 940,000 php for the E8 5 M/T Trim.

9.  Toyota Innova 2.0 J 5 MT

With its latest generation, Toyota revolutionise the way we think about an MPV. The new styling is totally a head turner for some and still remains its true core value of hauling 8 passengers in comfort. The latest generation also revamp the dampening and handling properties to a much comfortable for in and out of the city driving. Powered with 2.0 Dual VVTi Engine that is mated with 5 Speed Manual. This variant is a total highway cruiser. Pricing starts at 936,000 for the 2.0 J 5 M/T variant.

10. Mahindra Scorpio 2.5 STD M/T

Mahirdra’s take on the SUV segment is quite nostalgic. It has that bulbous appeal that even the PNP got their hands on it. Powered by a 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine and 5 Speed M/T rated at 105hp and 240Nm of torque. It can relatively seat 7 passengers. Mind you that this is a full-sized SUV offering from Mahindra to which is priced at 965,000 php for the 2.5 STD M/T and 975,000 php for the Floodbuster variant.

11. Foton View Transvan 2.8 15-seater M/T

With its version of the japanese counterpart, it has been favoured by most UV Express operators. Powered by a 2.5 Cummin’s CRDi engine produces 90hp and 225 N.m of Torque. It can seat 15 passengers and few space left for luggages. Great thing about this van is that the Price starts at 975,000 php.

12. Honda BR-V 1.5 S CVT

As a growing number of Filipinos demanding a car that can haul more than 5 persons that is wrap in a SUV feel and look, Honda answers back with the BR-V. Shared platform with the Mobilio, the BR-V’s modern look and stylish lines definitely captures everyone’s attention. I myself included. Thats when you see the side profile and then you will definitely know its a Mobilio on stilts with steroids. Powered with 1.5 i-VTEC engine and mated with 7-Speed CVT. It shares the same performance and road manners with the Mobilio. With a few exemptions of a few inches higher ride height. This allows the crossover to traverse our bumpy city roads and occasional flash floods with slight confidence over its brother. There are few knick knacks inside the cabin that it shared with the Jazz. All in all, it has that Honda’s premium feel to it. Pricing starts at 998,000 php

13. Foton Highlander 2.8 4×2 M/T

Foton Highlander is the most expensive people hauler on this list. Priced at 998,000. Just a shy away  from a Million Peso. But the list of features are outstanding than its rivals, given it’s a ladder-frame SUV. You’ll get a bunch of goodies for such an entry level SUV. Styling is definitely “brusko” that appeals to buyers that is looking for a family hauler with style. Powered with Cummin’s 2.8 CRDI Diesel engine that produces 160 hp and 360 Nm of torque. That is a lot of torque that turns the rear wheels. Given its price point and has the world renowned engine, Toplander’s appeal is definitely to watch out for.

With today’s growing need for these vehicles, there are plenty of other options in the market. But if a Million Peso is too much for your budget, definitely this list got it covered.
